For all of you who don’t know Fox Entertainment has caught on to the idea of rebooting failed franchises to squeeze as much money as they can from it and decided to reboot the X-Men series, or at least tell a prequel that might not go with the previous trilogy. Full synopsis:
“X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”
Sounds interesting, but what it doesn’t say is that for some unknown reasons Cyclops and Jean Grey aren’t in the movie (Even though they were two of Xavier’s students) while Scott’s little brother Havok is being played by Lucas Till, Xavier has a full set of hair, Kevin Bacon is the lead villain playing Sebastian Shaw, leader of The Hellfire Club, and for some reason Azazel, Nightcrawler’s father, played by Jason Flemyng is involved. Other mutants that will show up are Emma Frost, Banshee, Beast(Yes the blue one), and a whole other bunch that no one really cares about. Is this really the X-Men we want to see? One without Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, or even Angel when they were the four out of five from the original first class line up?
Well, wasn’t the original X-Men canceled in the first place? The franchise did not really take until the ANAD team, so skipping a few of the old fogies would not seem to matter much.
A graver cause for concern is the lack of Wolverine. I would also say Storm but Halle Berry ruined her so probably no biggie.
